I’ve decided to start another blog – this, after abandoning my last one for reasons I can’t quite remember. Actually, make that 2 blogs I’ve abandoned. They fell prey to my social networking sites and my photography online community. This blog will be the more fortunate one.
I live in the Eugene/Springfield area of western Oregon with my sweetie, Steve and our unusual dog, M’Lady. I’ve been here for close to 35 years. The only other place I can imagine living is New Zealand. The beauty here – and there – astounds me. As does my community of friends and family here in the Pacific Northwest. I am truly blessed.
I am a wearer of many hats.
My main hat is a personal one – as mother to two beautiful daughters, grandmother to four delightful grandchildren and partner to my sweetheart, Steve. I consider his 4 daughters and grandson as family, too. I consider my dear friends as family, as well. I am grateful and blessed to have them all in my life. As many of us do… we create family as we move about in this world. I’m sure I’ll be writing about them on occasion, as they all can bring a truckload of entertainment to any situation.
I am also a PhotoGraphic artist and full-time student.
I love hanging out behind my camera and in front of PhotoShop…. This is where I can lose myself for hours and hours and hours. I love the creative outlet it offers. When I add my love of PhotoShop to my passion for photography I may not surface for days.
I have rediscovered the world of photography after an absence of over 20 years. I particularly love macro photography and photographing and digitally editing flowers and the smaller, beautiful pieces of nature. There are so many secrets that are hidden from the naked eye. And I love taking a photograph out of it’s realm of reality and moving it into something else – either using the photograph as a whole or using parts of it as elements of design for another art form all together.
I used to be a software instructor and also provided skills assessment and training, for vocational rehabilitation counselors and their clients, but now that I’m a full-time student, I have almost eliminated this work from my life. I suppose it sort of eliminated me, too… when the economy took a dive. I miss working with my clientele. Some of my earlier musings will speak of them.
And… last but certainly not least…I am a graphic artist. Creating product illustrations, graphic designs & photographic art. I love creating art whether it is on the computer or the old-fashioned way – by hand. When I was first starting in product illustration and graphic design I used pen and ink, Rubylith (a masking film) and my wonderful electric eraser. Now I use InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop.
So – it is my hope that I can make this interesting enough that some of you will come back and visit.

hi roka,
great blog, you wearer of many hats (i can attest to this!!). you forgot to mention “excellent friend” and “skilled window frame painter”!
it’ll be fun to check in on your blog every so often and hear your latest news.
Thank you, Becky. Yes.. many hats. Happy you’re enjoying the blog. I’m loving writing it.
How can I subscribe to your entries so I know when you’ve updated your blog?
There’s now a subscribe link on the sidebar. Thanks.
Nice job Roka! Your photos are really really nice. I love the hoop dreams – what a sweet photo op to stumble upon! It’s great to see what you’re up to – lemme know when you do a show out and about of your photos! Love, Laura
Thanks, Laura. I thought I had replied to this before, but apparently not. Thank for visiting! I’ll keep you posted.
Hi Roka, great site! This will be fun reading. If you’ve added the RSS feeds through feedburner, that software also has a nifty way for people to sign up for automatic email notification. (I seldom remember to check my iGoogle site for updates.) I’m on my iPhone now, but I think the HTML code is on the feedburner site, rather than a wordpress widget. I’ll check when I actually arise for a cuppa. Yes, I’m slothful, but we are an hour behind you. Politically we’re way ahead of Oregon on the greasy, ignomious, infamous (I never trusted that woman!) politicians.
Thanks, Jan… adding the feedburner is on To-Do List (LOL) along with moving the whole blog to my server (Brian???). I guess it’s time to add another entry. I’ve been way to busy lately and hope things will calm down next week…ha ha! Thanks for popping in. xoxo
Nice blogpost, great looking website, added it to my favs!
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you’re enjoying it. It’s been a really good thing for me to do.
Cheers!
Love your photos….especially the ‘curious goose’ pic.
I will be back to visit. Very enjoyable!
Thank you, Jan. How sweet. You might also check out a new blog I’ve just started – storieswithoutwords.wordpress.com. A totally different kind of blog – for me anyway..
I’ll pop into your blog again, as well.
Enjoy…
Hi Roka – and thanks for your invite. As a poet I paint with words but also use photography to complement some of my verse whose inspiration was drawn from looking at what I had captured through my camera lens. The below link is an example of one such poem and my macro photography:

I’m honored to receive your invite and I shall be contributing.
Your blog is now on my blogroll. I’m glad you contacted me.
Many thanks, Roka
Wonderful. I’m so happy you like it here. I’m running out the door, but will look at your photography as soon as I get back. I, too, am obsessed with macro photography.
WooHoo! Can’t wait to see what you write AND your images.
Take care, Roka
I hope you don’t mind that I’m constantly using pictures from SWW–I do go overboard a bit but your blog is really excellent for creative writing
They are copyrighted so you might drop a line with the artist and let them know that you want to post them. I don’t believe it’s a problem since you’re keeping them very small and lo-res (as I see they are) and you’re linking back to the blog.
Thanks so much. I’m happy you like the blog. It is really fun! Fantastic writers and artists abound!
Keep coming back!
Roka
